Twiddling my thumbs
Isn't this pretty? I'm pretty sure it's a Richardson's geranium (Geranium richardsonii), abundant in the open meadows along Kachina Trail. Now that my photography is beginning to improve, I'd like to do more flowers, butterflies, and moths. But I must take time to shoot the rest of the plant (leaves, stems, fruits) to make more confident identifications at home. I really do not want to lug around one more heavy field guide! Neither do I want to collect specimens. I just like to know what it is I'm photographing.
I wish I could identify that sunflowery thing the police car moth was on. I'll go back there, maybe tomorrow, hoping it's still in bloom, so I can get more details. I'd also like to shoot the moth again but using a different method of focusing and try to get a sharper picture. That moth will be perfect to practice on, as it's not quick to fly off when approached (drunk on nectar?). But they do crawl around steadily in circles over the flower, frustrating me. I have to make circles a hell of a lot bigger to keep up!
